The oldest gay bar in Queens
Friend's Tavern has been on Roosevelt Ave in Jackson Heights since 1989, and it's regularly described as the oldest gay bar in Queens. In 2021 the local paper QNS reported that its owner had bought the building, so the bar could stay on the avenue. Its June 2025 roundup of queer bars in western Queens describes it as sitting in the heart of Jackson Heights, with energetic drag shows. Next door is Viva La Heights, and Hombres Lounge is a few blocks away, so the bar is part of the busiest stretch of Latin LGBTQ+ nightlife in the borough.
